Sampo's Christmas donation to Mannerheim League for Child Welfare
Sampo plc has donated 50,000 euros to the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare. The donation supports the work of the League’s helpline and chat service for children and young people and free after-school activities for primary school pupils.
The helpline for children and young people provides support when there are no safe adults at hand. The most common topics are related to loneliness, and calls involving mental health have been increasing rapidly for quite some time.
-Providing well-being in society is one of Sampo Group’s Corporate Responsibility objectives. The COVID-19 crisis has increased the need for support services for children and young people. The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare is able to reach children and youth in need, and the League does valuable work everywhere in Finland, says Sampo’s Head of Corporate Responsibility Johanna Tynkkynen.
The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare also offers support and companionship to children through after-school club activities for third and fourth graders, who would otherwise have to be home alone after school. These free clubs offer especially valuable support to those children who cannot take part in expensive activities or who face challenges related to learning or peer relationships.
-It is true that we are seeing an alarming increase in mental welfare issues, but children and young people also want to discuss ordinary everyday things with an adult. The best thing we can give to these children is our time and support. Donations from companies that bear their social responsibility are extremely important for the continuity of our work. A big thank you to Sampo plc for letting us listen to more children and offer meaningful activities to them, says Secretary General Milla Kalliomaa of the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare.
The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare is an open non-governmental organisation for promoting the well-being of children, young people and families. The League celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
